County Line Orchard is located in Hobart, Indiana off County Line Road.
Approximately ten minutes from downtown Valparaiso, IN fifteen minutes north of Merrillville, IN.
This orchard is comprised of five fields. Visitors can pick apples or buy pre-bagged apples.
The gift shop sells donuts, apple cider, caramel apples and much more.
Fresh baked Apple and Pumpkin Donuts!
Schools and other small groups and organizations can ride wagons pulled by tractors, visit the apple processing barn or pet the live animals in the Kid’s Farm.
The facility welcomes school groups with concession areas, a pumpkin house and live music. The facility can also be rented for parties inside and out. There is even a pumpkin path behind the corn maze where visitors can explore the maze, pick pumpkins and warm up near a camp fire.
Adults and children can visit the Bee Hives and Chick Hatching areas.
The staff is friendly and well equipped for large groups of children. The areas are clean and well stocked with supplies for hand washing during a visit. Restrooms are located in two areas at the entrance. The parking lot is large enough for buses to drop off, but they will have to park in the back lot while students explore the orchard.
There are over twenty-five varieties of apples offered at the orchard. A brochure provides specific descriptions of each and the availability of each during the seasons.
Plan ahead to purchase donuts and apple cider for your class. There are tables inside and out to eat. The apple donuts are a huge hit with kids. There is a fee for admission and apples, food and drinks are an additional expense. Contact the orchard for school tour prices.
Allow 2-3 hours for picking apples, visiting animals and eating. There are lots of great photo opportunities so be sure to pack a camera.
A new indoor barn will be available soon for parties and celebrations year round.
Suggestions:
Dress warm and wear old shoes. The field can be muddy during the fall so expect the kids to track in lots of dirt.
The rest room areas are small so plan accordingly and stagger restroom breaks. The outdoor portable bathrooms can be a challenge for large groups of students.
Bring plenty of parents to manage small groups especially in the crowded and busy gift shop.
Way Up High In The Apple Tree
A fingerplay for young students
Way up high in the apple tree (reach hands way above head)
Two big red apples smiled at me (make fists as apples, then point at smile)
So I shook that tree as hard as I could (swing arms in front of body, shake)
Down came the apples (fists to the floor)
MMMM.... they were good (rub tummy)
